How to clear “Screening Test” in SSB interview?

It’s a test for basic intelligence and IQ, generally done on the first day of SSB.

How to clear Screening test ssb

It comprises of two parts:

1. Written test – It is conducted in two parts. Both the parts have questions to be done in a limited time. These questions are nothing but to check your mental ability. It has verbal and non verbal questions.

In my view the questions are very easy and you can find these questions in any book you buy for ssb preparation. Don’t worry at all for these tests, they are really easy just be chill and confident.

2. PPDTPicture Perception and Discussion Test

Basically screening is all about PPDT. Even if you have not performed well in written test just don’t worry , its not going to affect it anywhere (trust me ANYWHERE!!)

Firstly ,you will be shown a picture (blurred) .You are not able to see things clearly. But don’t worry about that. Write a story on whatever you have perceived.

(Example – 1. In my screening in Bangalore, I saw an anchor but it actually was a cake
2. In Allahabad I saw a horse but it was a boat)
and I cleared all the screenings so just don’t worry that what you see is right or wrong you will be given a sheet in which there will be a square block in which you have to point out the characters as you see them the things you have to indicate about the characters –

a. Age

b. Sex

c. Mood

Then you have to write action of your story and then a story.

NOTE- Do not worry about the story, your English, grammar or other things in screening just write a story what ever comes to your mind first WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT HOW IT LOOKS because honestly no body even checks your story , what matters is how you narrate it when your turn comes!!

NARRATION – The most important part. I strongly believe that screening depends 90% on your narration. They give you hardly 1 minute and you have to speak up you story.

The lifeline of your narration(screening) is as follow-

IN THE STORY SHOWN TO US I SAW …… CHARACTERS IN WHICH ……. ARE MALES N …… ARE

FEMALES. THEIR AGE RANGES BETWEEN …. TO …. YEARS AND THEY ALL ARE IN POSITIVE MOOD.

ACTION OF MY STORY IS………

**remember to mention these five points in your narration
1. Number of characters you saw in the picture
2. Age
3. Sex
4. Mood
5. Action of your story

You will not get more time and if you speak up this much only I guarantee that you are selected.

REMEMBER NARRATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, IF YOU NARRATE WELL YOU ARE SELECTED NO MATTER WHAT THE STORY IS WHAT THE CONCLUSION IS HOW MANY CHARACTERS YOU SAW HOW MANY OTHER SAW NOTHING SIMPLY NOTHING!!!!!

Its about your perception, remember to mention above 3 or 4 things in your narration!!

Points to remember while narrating –

  1. Speak up loud and clear with full confidence as if you are the best speaker in that room.

  2. Eye contact – Most important make eye contact with each and every candidate present.

  3. Be expressive – You should be able to express yourself in an understanding fashion!!

DISCUSSION – Now after everybody has narrated their story There is a discussion on it and the group has to come to a conclusion.

Points which will make you different from others and also increase your chance of getting selected –

1.  Your preparation for discussion starts from narration only-

Listen to what others are saying during their narration and pick up two or three points from other candidates

[ example== while narrating some candidate said some shit about “confidence”, pick this point from his story and keep it in mind ]

Now during discussion try to support him by pointing out his point of “confidence” you don’t have to keep bragging about his point , just mention it once or twice!!!

  1. If your story is far too different from what others have written just do not go bragging about your story only, support others.

  2. Give others a chance to speak and be chill and relaxed !!!!!

WHAT IF A FISH MARKET IS THERE and PEOPLE ARE SHOUTING and NOT LISTENING TO ANYBODY??

This is a very usual scene. Just be chilled about it. If the group is making fish market then its your advantage only. Let them shout and yell you just be happy about it. Let the fools fight and you enjoy.

What to do in this situation?? > You can’t afford to sit quietly – no never.

Keep saying “please gentlemen maintain decorum” or ” please let HIM speak his point of ….. was good”

Never ever say that please let me speak because they will not.

By saying let him saying – firstly you will be able to convince them to shut up secondly by saying “his point” you will be able to make your point as well.

You don’t have to control them or become their leader or anything . if you have done your narration well then no one can stop you so just relax and smile 🙂 🙂 🙂

NEVER EVER STAND UP !!! DON’T EVEN THINK OF IT!!

If you have any doubts about the fish market thing then ask ??

NOTE – I have cleared three screenings and I have faced every situation in screening…

  1. A relaxed discussion
  2. A big fish market
  3. Almost a fish market

And I was able to clear all of them, after much research and consulting many who are recommended and are intellectually good and have an analytical approach so trust me what ever I am saying is for good only.

THOSE, WHO GIVE THEIR NARRATION WELL WITH EYE CONTACT AND LISTEN TO OTHERS’ POINTS AND PUT OWN POINT IN FRONT OF OTHERS, GET THROUGH SCREENING VERY EASILY.(I’m not shouting here.)

Just don’t get hyper. Relax, be confident let others speak because if you are good listener and supporting then they will support you definitely!! 🙂 🙂 Happy Screening..

Hello Sir, What do you mean by action of my story?and what about the title of the story? I mean how it should be?

    • Sonu
      August 30, 2017

      You don’t title the story.
By Action – I mean there must be things happening, events taking place, people doing things for real not just talking or preaching about.

Activities being carried out by people you portray as main character(hero) in the story is must.

Sir, while narrating and discussion I us my hands often. Is that a plus point or a negative?

    • Sonu
      August 24, 2017

When you say often then its negative. Don’t use too much, restrict to minimum while narrating. It is not required.

Sir, I have attended 2 SSBs and in both the cases I feel that even though I did well in my narration I dont speak expressively in the discussion. So sir, what should i do to take part in the discussion effectively

    • Sonu
      August 24, 2017

Improve your verbal skills, interact with strangers talk on any current topic or anything just to keep them hanging around. It will improve your expression and give you that confidence boost required to speak effectively in discussion.

    Hii This is Sandeep
I also faced the SSB interview in Bangalore & Allahabad center. I was screen out from Bangalore. I know brother you have very good experience and I agree with you but in some points I disagree because the result of verbal and non verbal also matter in stage one selection. I had seen in Bangalore center the copies were immediately checked by officers and marks mention according to candidate’s chest number for stage one selection.

This is my First Attempt of SSB Interview. My SSB interview for SSC (TECH)-47 is on 6th July in Bangalore and your article helped me a lot. I am just having a small doubt and I want it to get cleared before I go for my Interview. I went through lot of videos and articles about SSB Interview Procedures but I was not able to clear my doubt.
Doubt: Since I appeared for SSB as a Computer Science Engineer, I want to know whether they will ask technical questions (regarding my stream) in interview or not.
Or Is there a separate technical round Interview ?
    Please reply asap.

    • Sonu
      June 23, 2016

      Hey Sanket,

Don’t worry you are not going for an Engineer kind of job – so no technical round.

And yes there will be few, very common questions related to ur stream – that would be just to check, what you have learned. That’s all.

      I hope it’s clear now.

sir i am not much comfortable with english.. how much will it affect in my SSB interview.. because i cleared CDS 1 2016.. and i am appear as fresher…

    • Sonu
      May 25, 2016

If you have time, improve upon it. Learning and communicating in English is easy.

It will affect you (how much – can’t be quantified). Because most of the candidates will be using English and you might get ignored by them.

But if you have minor problem then you can use Hindi, If you get stuck anywhere.

is it compulsory to speak in english only during ssb interview… i am not comfortable in doing that though i can write well in english.. can’t i speak in hindi which is my mother tongue ?

    • Sonu
      April 4, 2016

Advice to you: Learn correct English(Whatever you can) and practice speaking it with friends, watch English movies and news.

It is not compulsory, but it is advisable to use english as you will be asked question in English. And while answering any question in english if you get stuck, use Hindi(convey your point) and switch back to english.

If you have not gone to Coaching so far, then there is no harm in going except the fees they charge(Rs 10,000 appx), as this is your last chance.

Practice as much as you can, lots of time is there with you practice and gain confidence.

About being nervous, tale deep breath – for two minutes and calm. Forget that you are going for test.

Prepare well, this will give you confidence and you will feel less nervous.

And smile, it’s good for body and mind.

    • Sonu

Any character you choose becomes a hero.

So choose the person whom you feel is a somehow involved or in action in picture or a central character of the picture.

reeta was a house wife. in her daily routine she saw that there was a main problem of traffic, with the help of her husband and ward member she filed an application in traffic control office and meeting with R.T.O. The officer taken necessary action and the people came out from traffic problems.

    • Sonu

Stand up and narrate your story to your gp and not to the assessor.
